Multimedia Process painting workshop for Adults

October 8, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm CDT

This 7-week group workshop is designed to allow individuals to explore new ways of understanding themselves via intuitive creation focused on the creation process rather than the outcome or product. This process is meant to be exploratory, experimental, and potentially grounding in being able to capture a bit of clarity of our subconscious selves. In this workshop we will create a space of curiosity for asking questions, compassionate noticing, and non-judgement in attempt to tune into any messages that want to be received if we might let ourselves be open to them. Can we allow ourselves to create even if the representation may not match up with our conditioned ideas of acceptable and valuable artmaking? The group will hold space for what is shared and respect each persons experience with compassion and empowerment. Josie will hold the space for each person and guide the group through various means of grounding and development of our collective ability to be present with these experiences.

We will dive into body and feeling sensations and respond in out art through various media types followed by written reflection each week. Each person will have opportunities to learn how to be their creation, practice designated writing reflection or time for free association or narrative writing, and opportunities for being witnessed and witnessing others in their human experience as we continue our life-long journey in our journey of knowing ourselves. The final week we will use all that we have gathered and learned about ourselves and each other to create a piece of art together as a literal and symbolic form of connection and integration. To practice recognizing ourselves as an integral part of a whole, and to allow ourselves to weave together our truths and create confidence and clarity in our existence.

Each person will receive 1 canvas to work with for the 7 week duration and to take home with them upon the workshop’s end. Various multimedia supplies will be offered for use during gate workshop such as: paints and paintbrushes, collage materials, hot glue, nails, hammers, sewing materials, yarn, natural material, rice, toothpicks, popsicle sticks, pom poms, glitter, utility knives, etc. Attendees are welcome to bring along any additional personal supplies or tools you wish to use in your process. You might also consider collecting anything in nature or in magazines or poetry or that is simply visually compelling to you and bring it along with you simply as token of inspiration.
